Woven Art
The aim is to describe an itinerary that is endlessly unfurling...

Aseem Pereira's work has been selected for the prestigious  Helen Lempriere National Sculpture Award to be exhibited at Werribee Park in Melbourne from February 2008. His entry for this year entitled 'How can we sleep?' is an assemblage of bed springs and aluminium cans, which are painstakingly cut into stunning flowers.

In 2007 his work was represented in the Wynne Prize at the Art Gallery NSW, as well as, the City of Hobart Art Prize at the Tasmania Museum and Art Gallery.

Aseem Pereira's works have appeared in exhibitions from Wagga Wagga to Chicago and have featured twice in New Glass Review, published by the US's prestigious Corning Museum of Glass. His corporate commissions adorn international hotels, including Singapore's Westin Stamford, The Conrad Bangkok and The Sofitel Wentworth in Sydney. His pieces also hang in private collections around the world.

Metaphor and alchemy are the wings of his art. Aseem has been translating recycled materials into shimmering surfaces of light, into intricate landscapes, into flowers that exude magical quality and beauty. The rubbish  our society produces is offered back much the same way lotuses blossom out of sludge. It imposes order and purpose upon the chaos that surrounds us. It connects with where we came from but most importantly it reveals what we can become.
